Oakhill Cottage is a traditional Manx stone building extensively renovated in the mid 1990’s and
purchased by Murray and Marie Lambden in October 1999. Only two miles from the centre of Douglas, it is set in the beautiful Manx countryside at Port Soderick alongside the Isle of Man Steam Railway.
The south facing small front garden is a real sun trap in the Summer. The garden shed to the rear of the cottage is a favourite with the children. The Isle of Man Steam Railway runs behind the hedge and if you stand on the bridge by the cottage or walk up the ramp into the top section of the shed you can watch the trains race past at 20 miles per hour!
The cottage consists of a double bedroom (with an en-suite shower room), a twin bedroom, a living room, kitchen / dining room with a downstairs bathroom.
Outside there is a small garden with patio furniture and a garden shed with sufficient storage space for bikes (you can enjoy a fantastic cycle ride from the cottage around the Marine Drive to Douglas).
The picture of the entrance with the arch above should help you to identify the cottage when you arrive.
The living room is packed with entertainment features. Enjoy widescreen TV, Sky+ digital satellite tuner (including Sky Sports & Sky Movies), multi change CD, surround sound system, a recordable DVD player or use your laptop taking advantage of our free wi-fi. We provide a
range of DVDs including plenty of choice for children.
If you prefer to turn the sound off, you will find books, magazines and tourist information, dimmable lights, leather suite, traditional fire place and mantlepiece for a cosy atmosphere.
The downstairs bathroom leads off the living room where you will find a WC, Jacuzzi bath, wash basin, washing machine (the tumble dryer is in the shed) and the gas central heating
boiler.
The kitchen features delightful hand crafted units together with all the modern equipment you could need.
Among the equipment you will find a new electric cooker, gas rings, a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, radio / CD player, and enough crockery and cooking utensils for
your every need. Under the stairs, just off the kitchen, you will find an iron and iron boarding.
A dining area consisting of a pine table and benches can be found on one side of the room with plenty of work surface and storage units on the other.
The washing machine is in the bathroom and the tumble drier and freezer in the garden shed.
If you would like to bring your laptop on your holidays, you can access our wireless broadband internet network in the kitchen.
Designed to make your stay a holiday to remember, the double bedroom features exposed beams and curtains co-ordinated with a bed head canopy with pine panelling above. In addition to “built in” pine wardrobes and cupboard space we provide a dressing table, bedside units with lights, a TV (including a satellite tuner for free to air channels and best reception), hair dryer and CD/radio. The shower room contains an electric shower,
WC, pedestal basin & shaver socket.
Designed with children in mind, this bedroom has two single pine beds, a TV/video (with free satellite channels), CD/radio, Playstation 2 & a computer with free broadband internet access.
We can provide a cot and high chair if required and there are a number of small toys for the very young.
The bedroom is also delightful for one or two adults with its exposed beams, bedside lights, pine furniture and “built in” wardrobe.
We normally clean and prepare the cottage ourselves. Occasionally we employ cleaners but cleanliness is one of our highest priorities. We operate a very strict no smoking rule to ensure that all of our guests are able to fully enjoy the cleanliness and decor.
There is one off road parking space (width of gates 8' 10"; length 15') and road side parking immediately next to the cottage.
Please note that the stairs are quite steep and that there is no handrail. Photo
Both holiday properties are strictly non smoking and we cannot accept pets.
